The Art of Nature
This illustrated post-it note is special to me for a few reasons. Have you ever started something that is really important and then when things started to go really well, you sought and shared reasons why you didn’t have to do that ‘thing’ as often anymore? Of course you have, we all have. So there I was, away from my home with a small kit of markers asking myself, ‘do I really need to do a quote today while I’m away?’ and the answer was a resounding yes.
I was in nature. I was out of my element. I was temporarily stepping away from my routine and while sitting there quietly, as the quote suggests, I heard my soul asking me to draw.
This self care was something I’d found at the beginning of the pandemic when I was drowning in fear, uncertainty, and doubt. It turned into drawing daily quotes about hope. I was surprised to discover that it’s not something I need because I am having a hard time, but instead it is something I need because it is the way I choose to spend my time.
When life gets noisy, things are too hectic, or I start to enjoy how it sounds when I tell everyone how busy my life is, I stand in the woods, or outside my home in the pitch black before bed, or even just take a walk in the woods by myself. I make sure these important moments are regular pieces of my life right now, and I give myself permission to have it more often.
